Nathaniel is a rock and acoustic singer-songwriter who “creates songs that get inside your head, stay there and make you want to hear more.”
His debut solo EP, Kick Out Of You, is officially released on February 26th 2013, supported by live performances with his 4-piece band in his hometown of Cardiff and in London.
Nathaniel was singer and founder member of indie/rock/funk band ‘The Low Lights’ whom the NME described as “Cardiff based indie superstars in the making”. Now a solo artist, guitarist & pianist, Nathaniel has been described by The Guardian as “a razor-sharp unsigned act – Indie with some sass” whilst Clash Magazine describe his music as “a vibrant tenacity all of it’s own making”.
Currently finishing a Psychology degree at Cardiff University, Nathaniel finds inspiration for his self-penned songs in his study of human behavior.
Nathaniel said: “I find that writing lyrics from different psychological viewpoints and extremes of emotion a really interesting approach, and writing and performing those songs really allows you to become that character for a short space of time. Most of my songs are about quite intense emotions or from the perspective of characters with dark mindsets”.
The EP’s title track is based on Nathaniel’s own first hand experiences including being an ex-professional online poker player, and explores the theme of addiction from a first person perspective.
Kick Out Of You will be featured in a soon-to-be released British feature film called ‘The Intervention’. This drama is written by award-winning screenwriting team Francesca Fowler and Duncan Roe, dealing with the ways that anorexia can affect the sufferer and their family.
‘The Intervention’ production team said "After seeing Nathaniel perform live we were really excited about having him involved with the film. His melodies range from haunting pain to songs that reflect his charismatic personality and witty lyricism. His gritty emotive tone and poignant lyrics directly relate to the key issues and themes we are dealing with in the feature film, so stumbling across this raw talent at the Bedford in Balham was really exciting."
Following a successful tour of Northern Italy in 2012 and a number of dates in legendary London venues including The Bedford, Dublin Castle and the Half Moon, Nathaniel will be bursting back on to the live music circuit in 2013 with his full live band.
In the words of LiveMusic.fm:
